How to Play Letter Boxed
Letter Boxed is a word puzzle on a square with three letters per side (12 letters total). Form words by connecting letters, then chain those words until every letter has been used at least once. Prefer practice over a single daily board? Play Letter Boxed unlimited free on the homepage.
Basic Rules
- Read the board. You get a square with three letters on each side — 12 letters total. Every letter must appear in your solution at least once.
- Build a word. Click or type letters to form a word of at least three letters. You cannot use two consecutive letters from the same side of the square.
- Submit and chain. Press Enter to accept a valid word. Your next word must start with the last letter of the previous word (for example, CAT → TREE → ENTER).
- Clear the board. Keep chaining until every letter on the board has been used. Fewer words is a harder, more satisfying solve — aim for two or three when you can.
Key Constraints
- Words must be at least 3 letters long.
- No two consecutive letters from the same side — you must jump to a different side with every new letter.
- Letters may appear in more than one word; you still need coverage of all 12 unique letters on the board.
- Chain words: the last letter of one word becomes the first letter of the next.
Tips for Shorter Solutions
- Scan for letters that appear only on one side — they often force the shape of your chain.
- Look for long words that pull in uncommon letters early so the end of the puzzle stays flexible.
- If you stall, Restart the same board and try a different opening word instead of forcing a weak chain.
- Two-word solutions are rare but possible; three or four words is a strong everyday target.

- Click or tap letters on the board (or type A–Z) to build a word.
- Enter submits the word if it is valid.
- Delete removes the last letter of your current word.
- Restart clears progress on the same puzzle; New Game deals a fresh board.
